Softball Game Preview: Hononegah Indians vs. Marengo Indians

Hononegah will take on Marengo at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Hononegah beats Marengo with five runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Indians beat Huntley on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.

Aislyn Palmer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits.

At the plate, Peyton Klikno was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelyn Kelly, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Marengo made sure to put some runs up on the board against Genoa-Kingston on Tuesday. The Indians blew past the Cogs 12-1. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Hononegah's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Marengo, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
