Preview: St. David's Warriors vs. South Wake Sabres
The St. David's Warriors will be playing at home against the South Wake Sabres at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. David's will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
In what's become a running theme this season, St. David's gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They blew past Trinity Academy 49-15 at home. With St. David's ahead 30-6 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
St. David's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kate Benson, who scored 14 points along with six steals. Benson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Rebecca Leshnock was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds.
South Wake aren't just finding sucess at home, as their game on Friday extended their overall winning streak to three. They came out on top against Chatham HomeSchool by a score of 54-43.
South Wake got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mia Jones out in front who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Dara Jurgens, who scored eight points.
St. David's has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for South Wake, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: St. David's have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for South Wake, though, as they've been averaging only 26.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
St. David's couldn't quite finish off South Wake in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 and fell 31-29. Can St. David's avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
