Baseball Game Preview: West Panthers vs. Hunter Wolverines

For the second straight game, West will face off against Hunter. The Panthers will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Wolverines at 3:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, West didn't have quite enough to beat Hunter and fell 10-9.

For Hunter's part, Jayden Montoya made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. That's the most strikeouts Montoya has posted since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Reymus, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Hunter: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-19 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Brito, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Hunter's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-19. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 17 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-21 record this season.
