Preview: Statesboro Blue Devils vs. Coffee Trojans
After three games on the road, Statesboro is heading back home. They will take on the Coffee Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Statesboro is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Coffee in Georgia (Statesboro is ranked 40th, while Coffee is ranked 129th).
Last Saturday, Statesboro came up short against Ware County and fell 51-44.
Loss or not, Statesboro got some senior leadership from Reya Johnson and Alyssa Staten. Johnson scored 15 points along with two steals, while Staten. dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Staten has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Shanaria White, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, even though Jenkins scored an imposing 56 points on Saturday, Coffee still came out on top. Coffee walked away with a 66-56 victory over Jenkins. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Coffee.
Statesboro's defeat dropped their record down to 14-3. As for Coffee, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Everything came up roses for Statesboro against Coffee when the teams last played on January 5th as the squad secured a 79-48 win. Does Statesboro have another victory up their sleeve, or will Coffee turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
