Recap: Luling Eagles vs. El Campo Ricebirds
The Luling Eagles were the 43-37 winner over the El Campo Ricebirds when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Luling took a 52-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of El Campo on Thursday. Luling just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Natalie Gomez, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar Dredla, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and four blocks.
Even though they lost, Luling were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Luling bumped their record down to 2-13 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for El Campo, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-16.
Luling's road trip will continue as they head out to face Nixon-Smiley at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. Nixon-Smiley is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak. As for El Campo, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Bellville at 5:45 p.m. on December 30, 2023.
