Basketball Recap: Jailyn Melton Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Cardinal Newman

It was a proper cat-fight when McBee faced off against Cardinal Newman on Tuesday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 53-31 victory.

McBee got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jailyn Melton out in front who went 6-for-9 on his way to 14 points and five boards. Gunnar Brigman was another key player, shooting 63% from the field en route to 11 points.

McBee was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cardinal Newman only posted four.

Despite the loss, Cardinal Newman still got an impressive performance from Wade Marsh, who posted 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

McBee now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Cardinal Newman, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, McBee will challenge Lee Central at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Panthers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Cardinal Newman, they will head out on the road to square off against Palmetto Christian Academy at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
