Baseball Recap: Girard Wins Going Away Against Corry

Girard won the last time they faced Corry and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Yellowjackets were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Beavers. The Yellowjackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.

Carson Stevens and Joe Ferretti made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Stevens tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ferretti struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Stevens has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Stevens got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one double, while Ferretti went 3-for-5 with two runs. Those three hits gave Ferretti a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mason Kalicky was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan St. Julien, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Girard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corry only managed seven hits.

Girard has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Corry, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Looking ahead, Girard will look to defend their home field on Friday against Greenville at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Yellowjackets 3.1, the Trojans 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Corry, they are taking a road trip to face off against Union City at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
