Basketball Recap: Sedgwick County Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

Sedgwick County won the last time they faced Caliche, and Tate Renquist did his part to make sure it happened again. The Sedgwick County Cougars strolled past the Caliche Buffaloes with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 55-41 thanks in part to Renquist, who posted 21 points and eight rebounds. That's the most boards he has posted since back in December of 2023.

Another player making a difference was Joshua Palic, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Palic is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Caliche saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mason Hernandez almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Avery Bell was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 13 boards.

Sedgwick County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Caliche, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Sedgwick County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Garden County on January 28th. As for Caliche, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 75-39 defeat against Otis on the 21st.
