Chugiak has won four straight games at home, while Eagle River has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Mustangs will host the Wolves at 7:15 p.m. Chugiak will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Chugiak is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Bettye Davis East Anchorage, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Chugiak was ranked tenth). The Mustangs never let the Thunderbirds get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Jack Carron made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Tyler Cage and Cole Lux did most of the damage at the plate: Cage went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Lux went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Lux is becoming a predictor of Chugiak's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Caiden Capozzi was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Chugiak was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Eagle River hadn't done well against South Anchorage recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Wolves came out on top against the Wolverines by a score of 9-4.
Like Chugiak, Eagle River also got a great game from a two-way player: Liam Lierman. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Lierman has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Eagle River let Dallin Roberts and Preston Jones run wild. Roberts went 2-for-4 with three runs and one double, while Jones went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jack Mullen, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI.
Eagle River has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Chugiak, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Chugiak suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Eagle River when the teams last played last Wednesday. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
