Casa Grande is 0-7 against Mountain View since March of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Mountain Lions at 4:00 p.m.
Casa Grande fell victim to Canyon del Oro and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to the Dorados. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Casa Grande saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cierah Mendez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Mountain View had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 9-0 shutout. Considering the Mountain Lions have won 11 matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Arianna Figueroa made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Danika Stoddard was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julia Donnely, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Mountain View hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.
Mountain View's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Casa Grande, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.
