Baseball Recap: Lynchburg-Clay Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Lynchburg-Clay put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They never let the Fairfield Lions get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. Those three runs were actually the fewest the Mustangs have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Cole Wells was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tanner Roberts, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Asher Faust, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Lynchburg-Clay's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Fairfield, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-3.

Lynchburg-Clay has already played their next matchup (against East Clinton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Fairfield, they will face off against Clinton-Massie at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
