Baseball Game Preview: South Amboy Governors vs. Carteret Ramblers

The South Amboy Governors will venture away from home to face off against the Carteret Ramblers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Amboy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

On Monday, South Amboy didn't have quite enough to beat Piscataway and fell 5-4. The matchup marked the Governors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Vaughn Pelkey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Jeremy Vazquez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two triples, and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of South Amboy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Micah Nemeth also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Carteret was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 12-2 to South River.

Carteret saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joniel Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Carteret's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for South Amboy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
