Basketball Recap: Stratton Eagles vs. Byers Bulldogs
Make it nine blowout wins for the Stratton Eagles this season. They breezed by Byers on the road to the tune of 55-27 on Friday. Given Stratton's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 189th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Clare Miltenberger, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Isenbart, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Byers lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sophie Linnebur, who scored eight points along with two steals. Linnebur has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Cossette Kerns was another key contributor, scoring three points.
Stratton is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. As for Byers, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stratton will take on the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Flagler is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Byers, they will stay at home for another game and welcome the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th.
