Basketball Game Preview: Esperanza Aztecs vs. Troy Warriors

The Esperanza Aztecs are taking a road trip to take on the Troy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Esperanza took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They snuck past Pacifica with a 55-51 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Aztecs' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Mariners are ranked 545th).

Meanwhile, Troy posted their closest victory since December 5, 2025 on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past El Modena 42-40. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.

Esperanza's victory bumped their record up to 20-2. As for Troy, the win got them back to even at 11-11.

Things could have been worse for Esperanza, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 56-38 loss to Troy in their previous meeting back in November of 2019. Can the Aztecs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
