Softball Recap: Renaissance Wins Going Away Against Hazel Park

Renaissance had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 8-5 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Hazel Park Vikings. The result was nothing new for the Phoenix, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Kerrington Brown was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, Saniya Lakey was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Chloe McMillian, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Renaissance always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hazel Park only posted an OBP of .333.

As for Hazel Park, they now have a losing record of 5-6. They have struggled against Renaissance recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

On Hazel Park's side, La'Onna Otis (2027) made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lillian Griffiths (2027), who went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Renaissance beat Hazel Park by a score of 14-8 later that day.
