The South Central Falcons are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season: they will take on the Apex Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
South Central is headed out to face Apex after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. South Central came out on top against South Lenoir by a score of 8-5 on Tuesday. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Hailey Mickey and Ava Coward made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Mickey pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Coward pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Mickey scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Coward scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, Mickey posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Kamdyn Haislip was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Haven Roebuck, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Apex had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They had just enough and edged out Union Pines 9-8.
Apex let Addie Louder and Maggie Austin run wild. Louder went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double, while Austin went 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren McMahon, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Everything went South Central's way against Apex in their previous matchup back in May of 2017, as South Central made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Central since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
