Soccer Game Preview: Callaway vs. Westside

The Callaway Cavaliers are taking a road trip to challenge the Westside Seminoles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Callaway is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 goals last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Pike County on Tuesday. They came up short against the Pirates, falling 6-0. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Pirates are ranked 19th).

Meanwhile, Westside hadn't done well against Rutland recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Westside never let Rutland get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory. That four goal margin sets a new team best for the Seminoles this season.

Kaila Lucas was the driving force of Westside's attack as she scored all four of Westside's goals, bringing her season total up to 11 goals.

Callaway's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four contests. As for Westside, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Callaway took their victory against Westside in their previous meeting last Tuesday by a conclusive 12-5. In that game, Callaway amassed a halftime lead of 9-2, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
