Softball Recap: Fort Wayne Northrop Takes a Loss

Fort Wayne Northrop had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it nine. They came up short against the Elkhart Lions, falling 17-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Bruins couldn't push the score so high this time.

Brilee Day made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

As for Elkhart, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Elkhart's side, Anna Knight made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. Knight has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had over her last 11 contests.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bailey Harris-Rogers, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 12 matches. Ava Walker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Fort Wayne Northrop is taking a road trip to face off against Fort Wayne Snider at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Elkhart, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Mishawaka Marian at 5:30 p.m.
