Softball Recap: St. John's Find Success

St. John won the last time they faced Houston Christian and things went their way on Tuesday too. St. John's walked away with an 11-7 win over Houston Christian. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mavericks.

Melanie Chen made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Avery Peakes was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Katelyn McCollum also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

St. John's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Houston Christian only posted a batting average of .192.

St. John's record now sits at 7-4-1. As for Houston Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. John's will host Episcopal at 4:30 p.m. on April 4. As for Houston Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against The Woodlands Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. Houston Christian will need to watch out since The Woodlands Christian Academy has now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
