Basketball Game Preview: Montezuma-Cortez Panthers vs. Grand Junction Central Warriors

Montezuma-Cortez is 0-6 against Grand Junction Central since January of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The two teams will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. Montezuma-Cortez is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season.

Grand Junction Central is hoping to do what San Juan couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Montezuma-Cortez's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Montezuma-Cortez blew past San Juan 72-48. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Caidin Leonard had an outrageously good game as he went 8 of 17 on his way to 23 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tay Wheat, who went 8 for 12 on his way to 18 points.

Leonard wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Montezuma-Cortez was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Grand Junction Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Berthoud, falling 70-50.

Montezuma-Cortez's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Grand Junction Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Montezuma-Cortez lost to Grand Junction Central on the road by a decisive 65-47 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Montezuma-Cortez avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
