Preview: Southern Bulldogs vs. Kent Island Buccaneers
Southern has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Kent Island Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Southern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
Southern struggled with assists on Friday (Broadneck had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Southern suffered a tough 51-28 defeat at the hands of Broadneck. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Southern has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Southern had strong showings from Ava Wooster, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Sidney Shaw, who scored eight points along with three steals. Shaw has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.
Southern struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Kent Island entered their tilt with Dover with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Kent Island managed a 46-41 win over Dover on Thursday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Kent Island's disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 58th in Maryland, while Dover is ranked seventh in Delaware).
Southern's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6. As for Kent Island, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
