The Irondequoit Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Penfield Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Irondequoit has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Penfield will arrive with three straight victories.
Brighton hit Irondequoit with a eight-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Bruins, falling 14-2.
Irondequoit saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rianne Maddaleno, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. That hit was Maddaleno's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Penfield hadn't done well against Webster Schroeder recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Patriots' pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 9-0 shutout. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Clare Magee's shutout, as she gave up just three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Penfield got a massive performance out of Stephanie Coughlin, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Malley, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Penfield pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Irondequoit, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
Irondequoit might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from Penfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
