Saugus has gone a perfect 10-0 against Canyon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Centurions will head out to challenge the Cowboys at 3:15 p.m. Saugus will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
On Saturday, Saugus needed a bit of extra time to put away Dos Pueblos. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Chargers.
Saugus got a great performance from Riley Nelson as she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Nelson has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Avery Salazar and Amelia Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Salazar went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Johnson went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Olivia Frias, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Saugus hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dos Pueblos struck out ten times.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Canyon's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They lost 14-0 to Granada Hills Charter.
Canyon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jessica Carr, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. That double was Carr's first of the season.
Saugus' record is now 17-4. As for Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Saugus took their win against Canyon in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Centurions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
