Softball Game Preview: Kennett Indians vs. McCracken County Mustangs

The Kennett Indians will head out to square off against the McCracken County Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Kennett took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Oran an 11-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.

Handley McAtee made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Kennett got a big performance out of Kynsly McCaig, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Baylee Wilcut, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, McCracken County waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Bombers with a sharp 10-0 win.

Kennett pushed their record up to 21-4 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for McCracken County, their record now sits at 22-5.
