Basketball Game Preview: Jarrell Cougars vs. Salado Eagles

Jarrell is 2-7 against Salado since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cougars will host the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Tuesday, Jarrell opened the new year with a less-than-successful 66-55 defeat to Burnet. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1059th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 487th).

Meanwhile, Salado had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They greeted the New Year with with a 61-44 win over the Mustangs.

Salado's victory bumped their record up to 18-5. As for Jarrell, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

Jarrell ended up a good deal behind Salado in their previous meeting back in January of 2025, losing 48-32. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
