Baseball Recap: North East's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak on the Road

North East dropped their record down to 11-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Fairview Tigers, falling 13-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Grape Pickers have suffered since May 21, 2024.

Jerek Turlij made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Owens, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

As for Fairview, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. They haven't had any issues with North East recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

On Fairview's side, Tyler Benford made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Benford was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vinny Campoli, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Andrew Stevens, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North East will square off against Corry at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fairview, they will challenge Conneaut Area at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
