Baseball Game Preview: Bowie Pirates vs. Big Sandy Wildcats

The Bowie Pirates are taking a road trip to take on the Big Sandy Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Bowie's victory against Pewitt wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Brahmas 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since March 7th.

Meanwhile, Big Sandy entered their tilt with Cumby on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Trojans.

Kayden Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 17 over 6.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Big Sandy is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-9 otherwise. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Malijah Francis and Logan Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Francis went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, while Brown went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Big Sandy is undefeated when Francis posts two or more runs, but 6-9 otherwise. Ayden Akin was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Big Sandy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Bowie is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Big Sandy, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
