Volleyball Game Preview: Wachusett Regional Mountaineers vs. Shrewsbury Colonials

Wachusett Regional hasn't had much luck against Shrewsbury recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mountaineers will square off against the Colonials at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Wachusett Regional comes in on five and Shrewsbury on ten.

While Wachusett Regional's win against Hudson wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mountaineers narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Hawks 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mountaineers have posted against the Hawks since September 17, 2019.

Wachusett Regional wouldn't go down easily and took Hudson into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-17, 15-13.

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury hadn't done well against Westborough recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Colonials blew past the Rangers 3-0.

While Shrewsbury won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 25-9, 25-20.

Wachusett Regional better focus on containing Erin Boulay and Gracie Hester as the pair were huge in Shrewsbury's win. Boulay had 14 digs and three aces, while Hester had 18 assists and six digs. That's the most aces Boulay has posted over her last eight contests.

Wachusett Regional's record is now 8-2. As for Shrewsbury, their record now sits at 10-0.

Wachusett Regional might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Shrewsbury in their previous meeting back in September. Can the Mountaineers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
