Baseball Recap: Newark Memorial Victorious

While Newark Memorial's win against Mt. Eden wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars had just enough and edged out the Monarchs 5-3. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Monarchs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Newark Memorial got a great performance from King Lopez-Archibald as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave Lopez-Archibald a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Newark Memorial's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Noah Hanohano, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Newark Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Mt. Eden, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-9 record.

Coming up, Newark Memorial is taking a road trip to take on Skyline II at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mt. Eden, they will be playing in front of their home fans against San Lorenzo at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Grizzlies' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Monarchs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
