Volleyball Recap: Marina Soliz Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Bandera

Sotomayor won the last time they faced Bandera and things went their way on Friday too. The WILDCATS blew past the BULLDOGS 3-0.

Sotomayor's got stronger as the match went on, holding Bandera to fewer and fewer points set over set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-18, 25-12.

Sotomayor got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Marina Soliz out in front who had seven digs and five aces. That's the most aces Soliz has posted over her last six contests. Sydney Ebenstein was another key player, getting seven assists and five digs.

Despite the loss, Bandera still got an impressive performance from Sydney Moore, who had 13 digs and 12 kills. Moore is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last 30 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taytum Moeller, who had 15 digs and one assist.

Sotomayor pushed their record up to 16-15 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Bandera, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-20.

Sotomayor and Bandera could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The WILDCATS (ranked 349th) will meet Harlan (ranked 21st) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bandera will challenge Davenport at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (869 vs. 67).
