Recap: Owen Warhorses vs. Swain County Maroon Devils
The Owen Warhorses were the 65-58 winner over the Swain County Maroon Devils when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Owen was just a bucket shy of victory on Wednesday and fell 67-66 to Swain County. Owen has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Owen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ellie Martin. Despite the final result, she scored 30 points. Those 30 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Hayden Koone , who scored nine points.
Owen's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-6. As for Swain County, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season.
Owen will be home for the holidays to greet Draughn at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Draughn presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Owen in North Carolina (Draughn is ranked 284th, while Owen is ranked 576th). As for Swain County, they will head out on the road to face off against Hayesville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hayesville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
