Football Recap: Mt. Vernon Skates Past Zanesville with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Vernon). They claimed a resounding 42-0 victory over the Zanesville Blue Devils. Winning may never get old, but the Yellowjackets sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Mt. Vernon's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mason Richards, who threw for 200 yards and three TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes. Those three passing touchdowns gave Richards a new career-high. Mt. Vernon's leading receiver Landon Dawson was Richards' top target yet again, picking up 147 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Mt. Vernon's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Zanesville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will square off against Watkins Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Zanesville, they will challenge Licking Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 31 points in their last four contests.
