Softball Recap: Barron's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Barron dropped their record down to 11-5-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Northwestern Tigers by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Golden Bears have suffered since April 12, 2024.

As for Northwestern, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-2. Two seems to be a good number for they as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Northwestern's part, Barron's batters probably weren't too happy with Ellie Peterson, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (she gave up zero walks). Those 18 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Peterson.

On the hitting side, Northwestern's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ashlyn Sutherland, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Gabby Berger also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Looking ahead, Barron is taking a road trip to take on Hayward at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwestern will be paying especially close attention to the Golden Bears' contest: after the Golden Bears face off against the Hurricanes, they'll take on Northwestern again at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
