The Sandusky Blue Streaks will head out on the road to challenge the Clyde Fliers at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
Sandusky fell victim to Perkins and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 10-0 to the Pirates. The Blue Streaks have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Clyde ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Elyria Catholic. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fliers have posted since April 5, 2024.
Jonathan Lantz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits. Lantz was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Clyde let Adam Young and Mason Flewelling run wild. Young went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Flewelling got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Clyde is 2-1 when Flewelling posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Deacon Brown was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Clyde kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.4.
Clyde's record now sits at 6-10. As for Sandusky, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9-1.
Sandusky might still be hurting after the 14-4 loss they got from Clyde in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Blue Streaks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
