Softball Recap: Chiawana Wins Going Away Against Pasco

Chiawana gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past the Pasco Bulldogs 15-2. The result was nothing new for the Riverhawks, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Amelia Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Avigail Rojas was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Wirt, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Chiawana was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Chiawana and bumps their season record up to 9-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Pasco, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Coming up, Chiawana will square off against Hermiston at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.08 runs per game on average), something the Riverhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pasco, they will take on Walla Walla at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs are facing the Blue Devils at the right time seeing as the Blue Devils are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
