Softball Recap: Hamilton Extends Winning Streak to Three

Hamilton proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 12) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the McGraw Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Emerald Knights have posted since May 18, 2024.

Ellie Freeth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Hamilton's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Rhiannon Murray, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base. That's the most hits Murray has posted since back in May of 2024.

The victory was the third in a row for Hamilton, bringing their record up to 9-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for McGraw, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hamilton will square off against Sauquoit Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for McGraw, they will face off against Brookfield Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
