Baseball Recap: Springfield Victorious

Springfield's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the MacArthur Generals. That's more bragging rights for Springfield, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Caiden Bietsch got the start for Springfield and what a start it was: he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Bietsch has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, Jacob Scheffler and Liam Watts did most of the damage at the plate: Scheffler got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs, while Watts went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave Watts a new career-high. Karter Marks was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Springfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Springfield's record is now 12-13. As for MacArthur, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-15.

Springfield didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-10 defeat against Glenwood on the 12th. As for MacArthur, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 19-0 loss against Taylorville on the 11th.
