Softball Recap: Midland Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Midland dropped their record down to 27-6 on Friday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of Socorro by a score of 8-7. Midland was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Socorro apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Ryleigh Thiebaud was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Mireya Rodriguez, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

As for Socorro, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 30-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games.

On Socorro's side, Haley Rodriguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. Rodriguez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 23 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Leilene Cardoza was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Danna Guerrero, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

While Midland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Saturday.
