Baseball Game Preview: Groesbeck Goats vs. Lorena Leopards

The Groesbeck Goats will head out to square off against the Lorena Leopards at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Groesbeck's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Lorena's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Groesbeck fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Fairfield on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 5-4. The Goats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Braydan Urban spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Groesbeck saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rafe Samford, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave Samford a new career-high.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Lorena's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of North Crowley by a score of 5-4.

Groesbeck suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 8-4-1. As for Lorena, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 13-2-1.

Everything went Groesbeck's way against Lorena in their previous meeting back in May of 2016, as Groesbeck made off with an 8-2 win. Will Groesbeck repeat their success, or does Lorena has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
