Softball Game Preview: Clearfield Bison vs. Somerset Eagles

The Clearfield Bison will head out to challenge the Somerset Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Clearfield will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Clearfield gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out Hollidaysburg 10-9. That's two games straight that the Bison have won by just one run.

The team relied heavily on Aevril Hayward, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Hayward is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Eve Siegel was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, Somerset beat Fort Hill 6-3 on Thursday.

Clearfield pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Somerset, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.

Everything went Clearfield's way against Somerset when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Clearfield made off with a 12-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bison since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
