Basketball Recap: Elk Grove Takes a Loss

Elk Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost to the Sheldon Huskies at home by a 61-42 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thundering Herd of the 75-65 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Elk Grove lost, don't look at Jason Raga. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 7 from beyond the arc on his way to 21 points. The dominant performance gave Raga a new career-high in points. Noah Hargrave was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Leading Sheldon to victory were Sebastian James and Baron Sabir. James went 5 for 9 en route to 14 points along with five assists and three blocks, while Sabir went 6 of 10 on his way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion Johnson, who posted six points and eight rebounds.

Elk Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Sheldon, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-9.

Elk Grove didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-41 win against Laguna Creek on the 29th. As for Sheldon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 67-51 victory against Monterey Trail on the 29th.
