Basketball Recap: Lemon Bay Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Gulf Coast

Lemon Bay hadn't done well against Gulf Coast recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Lemon Bay Manta Rays walked away with a 36-29 win over the Gulf Coast Sharks. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Manta Rays' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while the Sharks are ranked 103rd).

Several Sharks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kiara Rakes, who posted 11 points. Mackenzie Mcmaster was another key player, putting up four points.

The win made it two in a row for Lemon Bay and bumps their season record up to 8-9. As for Gulf Coast, the defeat snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 14-3 record.

Lemon Bay will host Neumann at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gulf Coast, they will challenge Lehigh at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Gulf Coast is facing Lehigh at the right time seeing as Lehigh is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
