Pleasant Plains waltzed into their matchup on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Athens Warriors 65-30. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Warriors are ranked 440th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the defeat, Athens saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sawyer Hill went 6-for-10 on his way to 13 points.

Pleasant Plains pushed their record up to 20-10 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.2 points over those games. As for Athens, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-17 record this season.
