Basketball Recap: Safford Triumphs

Safford hadn't done well against Pueblo recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Safford Bulldogs slipped by the Pueblo Warriors 51-50. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 68-33 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Despite the loss, Pueblo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Marcos Lopez dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Carranza, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.

Safford's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Pueblo, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Safford wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-42 defeat against Tanque Verde on the 20th. As for Pueblo, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 82-58 loss against Morenci on the 19th.
