Baseball Recap: New Buffalo Comes Up Short

New Buffalo extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 12-6 in the process. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brandywine Bobcats. The Bison were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bobcats from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Vaughn Nikkel was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Drew Bowen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Brandywine, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.

On Brandywine's side, Kyler Marshall was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Marshall has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaeden Warfield, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 15 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ryder Richard, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Brandywine beat New Buffalo by a score of 17-7 later that day.
