Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Marcellus

Marcellus extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 15-4 in the process. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cassopolis Rangers a 5-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cale Hackenberg made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. He is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abram Coffey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one double.

As for Cassopolis, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly five runs.

On Cassopolis' side, Gage Mitchell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks.

Marcellus will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rangers: the pair will be back at it again later today.
