In this week's power rankings, we saw one team go soaring up and another team come crashing down, along with everything in between. We'll tackle that and more in this week's report.
No Stoppin 'Em
Southern Nash was the better team in every quarter against West Johnston last week and consequently the better team overall. Southern Nash put the hurt on West Johnston with a conclusive 67 - 14 victory. One star in particular for Southern Nash was junior Quinton Cooley, who earned three touchdowns and 130 yards rushing the ball. The combined 81 points was the most of any game featuring a power-ranked team.
A
It was a battle of top-notch squads when Cleveland (4th in the power rankings) took on Cardinal Gibbons (9th) last week. Cleveland took its game by a score of 44 - 35. Two standouts for it were junior Jalen Chadwick and junior Darius Ocean; the former rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns while the latter threw for 379 yards and two touchdowns.
Movin on Up
After flying high with 38 points the game before, Southern Durham took quite a dive last week. It had a rough outing against Wakefield, losing 61 - 7. Southern Durham will need to regroup quickly to avoid another defeat since it is the underdog in its next matchup. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by 11, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Leesville Road (5th in the power rankings) and Garner Magnet (22nd). This will be the second home game in a row for Leesville Road. We'll see if it can add another positive mark to its record or if Cardinal Gibbons can shake off its defeat and take the spring out of Leesville Road's step.
