Basketball Recap: Wesclin's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Wesclin posted their biggest victory since February 13th on Friday. Everything went their way against the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins as the Wesclin Warriors made off with a 63-40 win. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Griffins are ranked 459th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Father McGivney Catholic's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Jansen, who posted nine points and five rebounds. Aiden Willis was another key player, putting up six points.

The victory was the seventh in a row for Wesclin, bringing their record for this year to 9-3. As for Father McGivney Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Wesclin will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Gibault Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Father McGivney Catholic, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 76-38 loss against Highland on the 27th.
