Volleyball Recap: La Junta Tigers vs. Monte Vista Pirates
La Junta was the 2-1 winner over Monte Vista when they last played one another back in August of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Tigers fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 2-1 on Saturday.
La Junta started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 28-30, 25-19, 15-11.
Brylee Gearhart paced La Junta's offense, picking up five kills. Gearhart got some help from Gabrielle Ojeda and her 17 assists. Acynn Good-Coates controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.
La Junta now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Monte Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
La Junta will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Hoehne at 4:30 p.m. on September 2. As for Monte Vista, they will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Sanford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
