Basketball Recap: Front Range Baptist Comes Up Short

Front Range Baptist was the 51-25 winner over Caliche when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Falcons were beaten by the Buffaloes 71-44 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while the Buffaloes are ranked 87th).

Front Range Baptist's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaden Pierce, who posted nine points and five rebounds. Pierce is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Elijah VanDenBerghe, who went 7-for-17 to rack up 15 points and five boards.

Caliche found their leader in sophomore Mason Hernandez, who dropped a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds. With that strong performance, Hernandez is now averaging an impressive 8.2 boards per game. Tayten Gerk was another key player, putting up four points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Front Range Baptist's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Caliche, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1.

Front Range Baptist wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-34 defeat against Front Range Christian on the 15th. As for Caliche, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 79-25 win against Creek Valley on the 18th.
